Congratulations to Fifth Formers Ingrid M, Hannah P, Boris T-S, Kyan T, Wendy X, Alec W, Thea W and Adam W whowon £3,000 from The Wood Foundation for their chosen charityFresh Start (Scotland)at the final of the Young Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) on Friday 21st June.The Wood Foundation funds schools throughout Scotland to donate £3,000 - students must:think about a social issue that needs time and money; go out into the city and meet with a charity that works to alleviate the problem; find out about the charity's workand make a presentation to bid for £3,000 from the Wood Foundation's Young Philanthropy Initiative. The winning group's social issue was homelessness and they made a persuasive case for FreshStart, which sets up people in accommodation, makingsure that they have the basics:bedding, kitchen equipment etc. This year, for the first time, we added a fundraising fair.Only one group can win the big prize, so every group set out a fundraising stall on Friday lunchtime to raise money and awareness for their charity.The Fifth Form rose to the occasion and it was a happy and worthwhile day of giving back to the City of Edinburgh.

Our Deputy Head (Pastoral), Carolyn Harrison, highlights the range of opportunities available to our Third Form students (13+) by taking part in our annual Third Form Field Week. This event has developed over 34 years into a highly successful and rewarding part of our school calendar, and is a fantastic opportunity to combine outdoor adventure with academic fieldwork, enabling our Third Form students to do some geographical and biological field study. Students can further develop existing skills in the basic outdoor pursuits of orienteering, hillwalking, mountain biking, abseiling, rock climbing and water sports. #APlaceToGrow

Congratulations to Lower Sixth form Student Daniel L who has won the Future Fellows Competition in Scotland, earning him a place at the prestigious Villars Symposium in Geneva.Daniel’s project which “truly stood out amongst numerous outstanding submissions” focussed on tackling textile waste with a 'Too Good To Go' style app for clothes.Well done Daniel – a fantastic achievement! #OurPeople
