The Week Ahead in Beer: Good luck picking between these events (2024)

Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s four breweries and a pair of newcomers, one down in Socorro and the other in Los Alamos, also joining the party.

This is gonna be one heck of a weekend. There are all sorts of options between Thursday and Saturday for beer, entertainment, and more. It all kicks off Thursday with the return of Grunewald at Duel’s ABQ Taproom, plus there’s German Night at Rio Bravo. Friday will mark the debut of Starr Brothers’ own beers, starting when they open for the day at 11 a.m. Pop in there for lunch, then head over to The Firkin Brewhouse for their first firkin! They have a batch Dawn of the Red on cask, plus they are also introducing another new beer called Peach Fuzz. This Saturday will be a full lineup of local and regional craft beers at the Food Truck Festival at Balloon Fiesta Park (we will have more on this later in the week). If you don’t want to be a part of that huge crowed, head over to Tractor Wells Park for their first cornhole tournament at 2 p.m. Check their social media pages for more information for what Tractor hopes will be an annual event. For your evening entertainment, go sing happy birthday to folk singer Eryn Bent at Distillery 365. All of that fun kicks off at 7 p.m.

On the new beer front this week, there are quite a few new options to check out. Bosque has brought back an old favorite in Kindling. Boxing Bear has brought back their silver medal-winning Chocolate Milk Stout, plus they have a limited amount of Coffee Chocolate Milk Stout, as well as old favorite Black and Blue Sour. There is a fresh batch of Double IPA at Marble, plus they bottled it as well. Ponderosa has popped the new Saison Chet Sauvage. Red Door has a new gluten-removed version of their IPA. Sidetrack tapped Crossbuck Pale Ale, plus they settled on a final recipe for their Switchgear IPA. Oh, and Pi Brewing has a big lineup turnover that you can find below.

Up in Santa Fe, SFBC has the new EXP-ESB available at the brewery, plus down here at their ABQ Taproom.

Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of April 4.

To break down each “capsule,” I listed the brewery (with Web page linked), its phone number and hours of operation. Under “Beers” are the new or seasonal beers on tap for this week.

Cask: The Pub Ale is on cask, but only for a little while longer. The Crossbuck and Railhead will be the next two beers in the firkins.
